Hani Abu Rida, a member of the Supreme Council of FIFA and the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), confirmed that all scenarios are put forward to determine the fate of the African championships after they stopped due to the spread of Corona virus.
Abu Raida told OnTime Sports that until now the African Union is still studying all the proposals related to the position of the African championships, whether for clubs or teams.
He added that, in large part, the African nations in Cameroon, which were scheduled for January 2021, will be postponed, due to the difficulty of the teams competing in the qualifying matches for the tournament.
He explained that there is a proposal to hold the rest of the Champions League matches in a combined manner in one country, but if it was announced that the matches would be postponed to September, there might be another decision.
He went on to talk about his opinion on the decision to resume the league, confirming that he would have preferred to have a meeting with the technical managers of the clubs, and then the heads of the clubs before issuing the decision, but in the end he respected the decision of the quinquennial committee.
He concluded his statements: “Moving the CAF headquarters outside Egypt would have shocked us, and Egypt is eligible to host the 2030 World Cup in partnership with one of the countries, and there must be work before 2024 to obtain the honor of organizing.”
