ABP rectifies ‘damage’ through supplementary payments | Money

Last year, the MAX Ombudsman showed that a group of ABP pensioners unknowingly received a pension that was too low, often for years. The broadcast led to tens of thousands of requests for a supplement. ABP earmarked almost 200 million euros for approximately 15,000 pensioners.

In many cases, those supplementary payments led to unpleasant consequences with surcharges and taxes. As a result, there was often less pension left from the supplementary payment than if ABP had paid the supplement on time. That is now being rectified. ABP director Harmen van Wijnen explains this in Reporting point Friday evening at television broadcaster MAX on NPO2.

Those who have received a supplementary payment do not have to do anything themselves. The first 15,000 of them will soon receive a letter from ABP. That letter states whether they suffer damage as a result of the supplementary payment according to ABP’s calculation method. It is estimated that this applies to half of this group. These 7500 see an amount of damage in the letter. If you agree to this, ABP will transfer the amount.
