TUNIS, July 28 (Xinhua) – Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed on Wednesday revealed that an amount of 13.5 billion dinars (about $ 5 billion) has been looted by businessmen.
In a video broadcast in the evening by the Tunisian presidency after a meeting with the president of the Tunisian Union of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (employers’ center, UTICA), Samir Majoul, M Saïed announced that 460 businessmen are involved, and that he has a list of their names.
“Businessmen concerned by the looted money are called upon to return it to the people and convert it into projects in the poorest regions of the country”, declared the Tunisian head of state.
“Personally, I called for a conciliation with them (…), I have no intention of harming businessmen,” he added.
On the other hand, Mr. Saïed warned: “there have been (some) attempts to destroy documents of major importance: these people will be brought to justice, in accordance with the law”. End
