13:55 – Daniel Ricciardo has released more details about the bet with his Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul. If the Australian makes the podium this season, he and Abiteboul will get the same tattoo.
Ricciardo joined Renault in 2019, after years of loyal service with Red Bull. In Great Britain he achieved his best result for the French brand, a neat fourth place. On the radio he said he was just one place away from what the bet was all about. Now Ricciardo has talked about that bet, whereby a podium place will result in the same tattoo on the body of him and Abiteboul.
“That’s the deal, he chooses the place and size, I pick the design,” says Ricciardo. “It all becomes clear. Cyril doesn’t have a tattoo yet so for him this is a big thing. It has to be something spontaneous and funny, something he looks at and then thinks: those were the days. Something in that corner.”
Good working atmosphere
So next year the man from Perth will leave for McLaren. There he replaces Carlos Sainz who in turn goes to Ferrari. Ricciardo becomes Lando Norris’ teammate. The two have already built up a nice friendship and that resulted in many funny moments in, for example, the press conferences.
They haven’t talked about next year yet, but Ricciardo is certainly impressed by the development of Norris, who took his first podium in the first race of the season. “I’m definitely looking forward to it, it will not only be competitive but also a lot of fun,” said Ricciardo. “If you look at his results, apart from just the podium, you can definitely see progress. That’s cool to see. It will be a good working atmosphere next year, I’m looking forward to it!”
