(ETX Studio) – This is a first. On February 26, TikTok users will be able to discover the first series designed for the Chinese platform. At the helm, we find the French artist Abd Al Malik with Amazon Prime Video. Called “Cities”, the mini-series will respect the codes of TikTok to tell the story of a band of friends scattered across France and their relationship with French culture.
Amazon Prime Video had launched the casting to integrate the series in December 2020 on TikTok with the challenge “#PrimeVideoCasting”. Since then, the campaign has received more than 45,000 participations and had more than 105 million views. The project retained around ten participants, all using the TikTok application. The entire production, from casting to editing, including filming and therefore distribution, has been designed or directly carried out via the platform. The series drew on the social network’s creative tools and trends like dance and music.
At the head of this rather unique project, we find the French artist Abd Al Malik. The rapper and director wrote and directed this series called “Cities”. 12 episodes of 60 seconds, the maximum length allowed for videos on TikTok, will be broadcast from Friday, February 26 on the Chinese social network.
The story will follow a group of friends, aged 15 to 25, scattered all over France, but meeting on TikTok: “In France each district, each village, each town center has places within it. emblematic names bearing the names of great figures of our cultural heritage. Such place Aragon, such Albert Camus college, such George Sand square, such Isabelle Eberhardt library are the daily scenes of scenes of life where young people from all walks of life meet to rap, dance, skate, play basketball or soccer or just hang out. ” Showing that youth and French culture have never been in opposition, this is Abd Al Malik’s objective: “+ Cités + highlights the relationship between youth and French cultural heritage and endeavors to show that there is no disconnection between them. It suffices to relate it through the prism of our time. “

The series will be available on Amazon Prime Video France’s TikTok account as well as on a special page within the streaming platform. A live with the director Abd Al Malik and a few actors will be offered to Internet users on Thursday, February 25, as well as exclusive content such as the making-off and interviews.
