Abandoned in a barn for 50 years, this Ferrari is worth millions but was in terrible shape

This is not the case with a motorsport legend: this very rare and very expensive Ferrari had a very unhappy fate. Just think that for almost half a century they left it to gather dust and rust on its own.

It is time to set up an international fund for research and the discovery of supercars of historical interest: look how many they are abandoned every year only to be forgotten…the last specimen found by collectors is so rare and expensive that it seems incredible to us that no one has come to claim it. Now the restorers will have to work miracles to put it back in running condition.

A real crime… (MondoFuoristrada.it)

Abuse of supercars

Some cars are unquestionably rarer and more valuable than others and so, as it happens for statues and paintings in the right proportions, they can’t just be thrown out to collect dust and mold indoors until they rot. Yet, many unwary owners continue to do exactly that with their multimillion-dollar price tag supercars.

Owning a supercar isn’t just about blasting through the neighborhood making all passers-by turn their heads, it’s also quite a responsibilityà: the Ferrari company knows this very well and does not take lightly the treatment inflicted on its cars – such as unauthorized tuning or an obnoxious display of the car on social media – and which would probably immediately “excommunicate” this indolent owner.

A name, a destiny

Some Ferraris are rarer and more sought after of others on the used market: impossible not to mention the Ferrari 365 Daytona between these cars. Curiously and probably by pure coincidence, the car bears the same name as the Rolex Daytona which in its field, that of luxury watches, can easily be compared to the car in terms of appreciation aroused in collectors.

But the Daytona… is worth significantly more. This supercar was built between 1968 and 1974 in a few specimensabout 1,400 according to Wikipedia, which makes it very coveted. Powered by the powerful V12 engine and characterized by an unforgettable line, the car was not only beautiful to look at but also competitive and in the seventies it won more than one important event including the 1971 24 Hours Le Mans for example.

Look how they reduced it

To date, a Daytona in good condition can be worth up to two million Euros but that hasn’t stopped the owner of this beautiful Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4. The car bears the chassis number 12653 and is the only road of this model produced with an aluminum frame, which makes it even rarer: traces of the model were lost in 1980 when it was purchased by a Japanese customer.

Sadly this person didn’t have much regard for the car which, as in the best clichés about supercar finds, was found in a barn in appalling condition. All this happened in 2017 and only recently The car has undergone a lengthy restoration which has brought it back to its former glory. Experts have valued the specimen at 1,700,000 Euros, which is certainly not a small amount.

But will the car still run? Definitely, the restoration had a happy ending but it remains a real crime against enthusiasts to abandon such a supercar in the middle of nowhere. Especially since if the owner had sold it he could have made a million plus! Some people obviously don’t deserve their money.
