A7 in Hamburg: Total closure for several days from tonight | NDR.de – News

Status: 17.11.2022 06:29

Due to the construction work on the Altona noise protection tunnel, a section of the Autobahn 7 in Hamburg will be completely closed for a total of 79 hours starting tonight. Several bridges have to be demolished.

The A7 will be completely closed in both directions between the Hamburg-Waltershof and Hamburg-Volkspark interchanges from today at 10pm until next Monday at 5am, as announced by Autobahn GmbH Nord. The Elbe tunnel is also affected by the closure. The crossings will be closed from 21:00.

The closure will be extended from Friday 10pm: the lane will then be completely blocked by the Hamburg-Heimfeld interchange. The reason for this is the work in the area of the K20 Elbmarsch elevated road south of the Elbe Tunnel.

expected traffic jams

Autobahn GmbH Nord stressed that a significant volume of traffic and obstacles on detours and alternative routes are to be expected, especially on Friday. Transportation and logistics companies should reschedule planned trips or schedule more time. It is strongly recommended that commuters use local public transport or work from home. Unnecessary journeys should be avoided.

Recommendation: Drive far and wide in the area

If you must drive, Autobahn GmbH Nord recommends driving in the area via the A1 (Bremen-Lübeck), A21 (Bargteheide-Bad Segeberg) and B205 (Bad Segeberg-Neumünster). Detours within the city will take place from the Hamburg-Heimfeld and Hamburg-Volkspark interchanges: drivers traveling south should follow the “Elbbrücken” signs at the Hamburg-Volkspark interchange via the B4 towards the A1 and A7. Heading north traffic at the Hamburg-Heimfeld interchange is routed via the U7 detour. Port traffic coming from the south can follow the necessary U21 detour towards the port at the Hamburg-Heimfeld junction.

Possible alternative routes to the city centre

Motorists traveling south from the A23 can exit at the Pinneberg-Nord interchange and reach destinations in western Hamburg via the Westring/L103. Coming from the north, motorists can reach central Hamburg by taking the Schnelsen-Nord exit and driving through the B432, B433 and Alsterkrugchaussee airport bypasses. It is also possible to exit at Hamburg-Schnelsen and reach the city center via Kollaustrasse.

Demolition work on three bridges

During the total closure, the work on the Altona anti-noise tunnel will continue. In particular, the demolition of the Osdorfer Weg and Bahrenfelder Chaussee bridges will continue. Furthermore, the Kielkamp/Lutherhöhe bridge will be demolished. A makeshift temporary bridge should allow pedestrians and cyclists to continue crossing the A7 during the construction period.

The noise protection tunnel is expected to be ready by 2028

The two-kilometre-long Altona anti-noise tunnel above the A7 should be completed by 2028 and will then be expanded to eight lanes. In connection with the construction work, there had already been two complete closures on the A7 in Hamburg in July for several days.
