A young medical student volunteered for the COVID-19 vaccine

The tests of the vaccine against the Covid-19 elaborated by the American company Pfizer and its German counterpart BioNTech in Argentina began.

From the Military Hospital, the tests are coordinated by the team of Dr. Fernando Polack, director of the Infant Foundation and a doctor specializing in respiratory viruses. In this instance, teams of specialists are expected to verify the effectiveness of the formula.

According to preliminary tests carried out in the USA and Germany, the candidate vaccine allows the development of a high level of antibodies, as well as those of the patients who managed to recover.

The call was opened and in a short time it had already closed. According to Sergio Maldonado, the director of the Hospital, “25 thousand signed up but only 4,500 will participate in this instance.” Among those selected is the young woman from Dolo Sonia Iturregui, 3rd year Medicine student at the National University of La Plata.

The sample will be varied and will include people with different profiles: doctors, nurses and other health professionals, young people and older adults, the military, and also individuals with other professions.

Half will receive the vaccine, while the remaining half will receive placebo (in the form of an injection of physiological solution). The purpose of having a control group is that it is the only way to monitor whether the drug really works.
