2020 has been a very difficult year, especially from a health point of view. Throughout this complicated 2020, the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Polyclinic has expanded its health technological capacity by incorporating, among others, a second MRI machine, a state-of-the-art 3D mammography machine and multiple gesture control screens for all of its smart operating rooms.

At the same time, the hospital has strengthened the area of ​​neurosurgery, by surpassing the two hundred operations of endoscopic biportal spinal surgery, used for various pathologies, from scoliosis to spinal biopsies. The revolutionary surgical technique, born at the Barum Hospital in South Korea, was introduced in Europe by the Ibizan hospital center, which is, to date, the only accredited trainer in the entire continent that has the personnel and technology necessary to apply it. .

The fact that the postoperative period does not require admission to the ICU has facilitated its application normally, without obstructing beds necessary to attend the health emergency in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, something that with conventional techniques would not have been possible.

Double diagnostic capacity

On the other hand, the incorporation of a second MRI equipment has allowed the hospital group to double its diagnostic capacity. This technology is increasingly in demand, especially in disciplines such as vascular surgery, cardiology, neurology and oncology.

The new system has the capacity to carry out vascular studies without the need for intravenous contrast and incorporates the mapping of cartilage, a very relevant advance in the diagnosis of joint injuries such as knee injuries. The technology expands the diagnostic capacity in bone problems and allows early diagnosis of degenerative problems such as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other cartilage pathologies.

Innovative 3D mammograph

Since last January, the hospital has a state-of-the-art 3D mammograph that improves the detection and early diagnosis of breast disease. The device offers advantages such as greater comfort for the patient during the examination and a considerable increase in accuracy in the detection of breast carcinomas. Thanks to digital tomosynthesis, the device is capable of identifying cancer in earlier stages than a conventional mammogram.

Smart operating rooms

During the second semester of 2020, screens with maximum image resolution and gesture control were installed in all the operating rooms of the center. Intelligent technology allows the surgeon to access the patient’s medical history in a few seconds and review all the images of their tests without leaving the field of sterility, which minimizes risks and speeds up surgery. In addition, gesture control is a plus at a time of extreme hygiene measures like the current one, since it is not necessary to touch anything.

The pandemic has forced doctors to emphasize that “control tests, colonoscopies, cardiological examinations, mammograms and the rest of the annual pediatric or ophthalmological examinations are appointments that should not be forgotten or postponed”, since they are an essential facet of preventive medicine to protect our health.
