A woman has died after being stabbed in the chest by a beach umbrella blown away by a strong gust of wind. The incident happened on a beach in Garden City, South Carolina.
Eyewitnesses to the tragedy immediately came to the aid of 63-year-old Tammy Peralt and called an emergency team, which managed to stabilize her, but unfortunately the woman died an hour later in the hospital.
However, this case is not isolated. About 3,000 people a year are injured by umbrellas on US beaches, according to the US Consumer Protection Commission.
After Peralt’s latest death, several Virginia senators asked the commission to review the state’s conditions for using beach umbrellas, notes 20minutos.
