As the ship waited for a signal to enter the Suez Canal, it initially created a distinct pattern by seemingly pointless maneuvering. The captain drew a figure resembling a penis and testicles with a 400-meter-long vessel. The erotic drawing, which was revealed by a simulation of the ship’s trajectory, was pointed out on Twitter by the VesselFinder portal itself, which monitors the ship’s movement.
A spokesman for the shipping company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, which manages the Ever Given, told German magazine Der Spiegel that it is not uncommon for ships waiting to enter to “meander around”. Asked why the virtual figure resembles a male genitalia, the spokesman noted that it was probably a “pure coincidence”.
However, the sailors from Ever Given would not be the first authors of similar figures. Occasionally, pilots make such sketches.
