Retaliatory Sanctions, Joe Biden and U.S. Officials Banned From Entering Russia

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Russia Enter the President’s name AS Joe Biden and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on the list of people barred from entering the country. This was announced by the President’s government Vladimir Putin on Tuesday (15/3).

As reported Reuters on Tuesday (15/3), including the names of Biden and Blinken in the ‘black list’ became a form of Russia’s response to the sanctions imposed by Washington on their state officials.

Some U.S. officials on the list include Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, CIA chief William Burns, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and others.

Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is also listed as a person barred from entering Russia. Thus, about 13 people are listed on the list.

However, Russia’s Foreign Ministry said it still maintains official relations with Washington.

Not only that, if needed they will also ensure that high-level contact with the people on the list can be made.

The US imposed sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, one of which was by trying to limit Russia’s access to gold by enacting a law.

The two discourses seem to have been agreed upon by the two major factions in parliament, namely the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Senator Angus King assessed that the policy discourse could narrow the financial access of the Red Bear Country.

This was designed because the value of the Russian currency, the ruble, was still supported by gold reserves of US$130 billion or equivalent to Rp. 1,862 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,323 per dollar).

Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas said the sanctions would target those helping Russia finance the war by buying or selling their gold.

Meanwhile, other sanctions are the decision of a number of well-known business brands to leave Russia, such as McDonalds, General Electric, PayPal, Sony, to Goldman Sachs.
