a vast screening plan launched in Ile-de-France

THE ESSENTIAL

  • 1.3 million preventive tests will be carried out in the coming weeks in Ile de France
  • The objective is to identify possible dormant clusters

This weekend in Bondy, a town located in Seine-Saint-Denis, Covid-19 screening tests were offered free of charge. These serological tests are carried out from a blood test and make it possible to detect (or not) the presence of antibodies, and therefore to know if one has been infected with the virus.

Those wishing to be screened were able to go to the Palais des sports de Bondy from Friday June 26 until Saturday evening June 27. “In this poorest department of Ile-de-France, very affected by the virus during the epidemic, free access is essential to identify and control possible foci of contamination“, underlines Dr Maxime Talybaly at the microphone of France Info.

In our population, this is special, because there is a low supply of care, so people do not consult. And then there is a language barrier too, where people are afraid to go to the doctor. They are afraid to pay. There are many obstacles to accessing care, so opening these centers and offering vouchers, we are very much in favor of this kind of approach“, adds the doctor.

1.3 million preventive screenings in Ile-de-France

This Thursday, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran announced the implementation of a massive screening plan in Ile-de-France: 1.3 million preventive screenings will be carried out in the coming weeks in order to detect possible clusters dormant.

Until now, screening tests have only been prescribed if there is a suspicion of contamination. This measure concerns the inhabitants of thirty municipalities in Ile-de-France. They will receive good health insurance which will allow them to go for testing, including if they do not experience symptoms related to the virus.

The objective of this operation is to identify people potentially carrying the virus and asymptomatic. “It is also a question of looking at whether there are differences between the territories on the circulation and the impact of the virus.“, said the Minister of Health.

In the list of cities concerned, several municipalities of Essonne and Seine-Saint-Denis. The city of Paris will not appear there, explained theIle-de-France regional health agency the newspaper The Parisian. The ARS Ile-de-France specifies that the selection of cities is established according to several criteria, including the number of doctors by region and the circulation of the epidemic.
