A third military plane crashes in just one week in Russia

After two Su-25s crashed in different areas, this time a huge military transport IL-76 hit the ground

A third fighter jet crashed in Russia in just one week. After two Su-25s crashed in different areas, this time there was an accident with a huge military transport IL-76.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that there was a hard landing of IL-76 in the Ryazan region, after which several injured crew members were taken to hospitals.

“During the unloaded training flight, due to an established engine malfunction, the crew decided to land on the ground. The plane was partially destroyed in contact with the ground,” the military said.

From the videos on Twitter it is clear that in practice the plane was completely destroyed by the impact and fire. There were reportedly 9 people on board, four of whom died and five were injured.

“The plane crashed due to a sudden start of the engine. According to preliminary data, four people died and five were hospitalized,” experts said. According to them, the plane was flying on the Belgorod-Orenburg route and stopped to refuel in Diaghilev.

On June 21, it was announced that a Russian military plane had crashed in the Rostov region, near the border with Ukraine. The pilot died, the press service of the Southern Military District reported at the time, quoted by AFP.

“A Su-25 plane crashed on June 21 in the Rostov region during a planned training flight. The pilot died,” the source was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies. “According to preliminary information, the cause of the incident may be a technical malfunction. A commission of the Russian military and space forces is working at the site,” the authorities said. The pilot was the only person on board, according to Interfax.

The Su-25 is an armored Soviet-made attack aircraft. On June 17, another such plane crashed during a training flight in the Belgorod region, which also borders Ukraine. The military even then said that the reason could be a technical problem. In recent months, Russia has repeatedly accused Ukraine of striking Russian territory in border areas. Incidents with crashed Russian planes are common. Russia’s military equipment is unreliable, outdated, and far from “analog-free,” as Putin claims, the agencies added.
