a taste of Grecale and GranTurismo

CENTENARY HISTORY – The Maserati was founded on 1 December 1914, at number 1A of the central Via de ‘Pepoli in Bologna: here, the Alfieri brothers, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati set up a mechanical workshop specialized in preparing Isotta Fraschini for road races. The house of the Trident, whose emblem is inspired by the trident of the statue of Neptune in the nearby fountain in Piazza Maggiore, expanded in the 1920s and built its first car in 1926: it is the Tipo 26, which decreed the success of Maserati, the which moved 13 years later to Modena.

TWO LAUNCHES – And so, to celebrate the 106-year milestone, Maserati released a short video (see it below), which seems more like an excuse to give a preview of two highly anticipated products. In fact, at the end of the video, there are the profile pictures of two very important models, namely the average SUV Maserati Grecale and the sportswoman GranTurismo.

THE GRECALE – The Maserati Grecale is a new model for the Trident house, a more compact and economical SUV than the Levante, which should significantly increase the manufacturer’s sales, given the market appetite for this kind of cars and given the success of its rivals (Porsche Macan, BMW X4, Mercedes GLC and Audi Q5). The Grecale should adopt a platform derived from that of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, updated in terms of electrification, in fact it will also be offered with an electric motor, as well as with thermal ones. Production should start around the middle of 2021 in the FCA factory in Cassino.

THE GRANTURISMO – The new Maserati GranTurismo instead it is called to replace the homonymous model who retired a few months ago after 13 years of career. Like the previous generation, the new coupe will be able to combine elegance, dynamism, comfort and sport. The GranTurismo will also be offered with thermal and electric engines, but will be built in Mirafiori. It should debut by the end of 2021 to go on sale in 2022, together with the GranCabrio open version.
