A surprising reinforcement for OM?

Determined to see Olympique de Marseille strengthen during the next summer transfer window, André Villas-Boas would not have a bad eye for Kostas Mitroglou’s return to OM.

Landed atOlympic Marseille in the summer of 2017 when the Marseilles leaders thought they had found the longed-for Great Attacker, Kostas Mitroglou never managed to meet the expectations placed on him. His statistics, with 12 goals in 33 matches in Ligue 1, are certainly not infamous, but the Greek international has never seemed able to carry the Marseille attack unlike a Mario Balotelli or a Dario Benedetto.

The old marking machine Benfica only stayed in Marseille for eighteen months before being loaned to Galatasaray then at PSV Eindhoven. Two inconclusive loans until the native of Kavala scored only 2 and 3 goals respectively in his two seasons. Not surprisingly, the Dutch club has no intention whatsoever of exercising the purchase option attached to its loan.

Kostas Mitroglou is therefore preparing to return to Marseille once again and could well honor the last year of his contract there. Olympiakos certainly has views on his former player but a transfer appears unlikely again. The leaders of Marseille are well aware of this and have already raised the subject with André Villas-Boas. And to believe The team, the Portuguese technician would not see this return with a negative eye, convinced that he could revive the career of the Greek international. The task, however, does not look simple.
