Spectacular, the fire that destroyed the recycling center of Saint-Prex in the middle of the night on Monday was because the flames rose so high in the sky that the surrounding villages could all see that something was happening important, for those who were up around 3 a.m. “We could clearly see the fire from the Lausanne suburbs,” said a witness from the capital.
Cutting through with its slender and almost luxurious style, all clad in wood, the building where residents’ waste is collected was inaugurated in 2011 and appears on Monday to be completely destroyed. “It will be up to the experts to determine what is involved, but it is clear that the damage is very heavy,” explains Captain Sébastien Pahud, who directed the intervention on behalf of SIS Morget. “We had a total of 55 men on site, with the reinforcement of units from Lausanne.”

In the morning, firefighters were still watering the carcass blackened by the flames, in a spectacle of desolation, even if no wounded was to be deplored. “Given the state of progress of the fire on the building in question, we mainly sought to protect the surroundings, such as the neighboring fields and the company Fischer Connectors, which is right next door.”

A detour has been set up and an investigation will be carried out to find out the causes of the fire’s departure, the crowded grass being a possible cause at this time of the year. This intervention required the commitment of fifty firefighters at the height of the disaster, from the SIS Morget and the SPSL (Lausanne). Patrols from the Morges Regional Police and the gendarmerie also moved, as did the Operational Health Support. Members of the Municipality of Saint-Prex, as well as municipal employees, also visited the site overnight.
