A special solidarity sale this year at Zenith in Dijon

It was threatened by the resumption of the coronavirus epidemic, the Fnac solidarity sale was finally able to be held this Sunday, at Zenith in Dijon. A performance hall marked by restrictions linked to the COVID-19 crisis: no more than 500 people could be in the compound at the same time.

This clearance sale, which has existed for 12 years, still has the same purpose: to donate the proceeds to Secours Populaire.

The 2020 clearance sale is more important than the others – David Lebugle, president of Secours Populaire in Côte-d’Or

But this year is special for David Lebugle, the president of the departmental federation of Secours Populaire in Côte-d’Or. “We have seen 15 to 20% more people come to Secours Populaire in the department for 3 months“, he explains. And this while the association’s revenues are no longer the same with the COVID crisis, this edition is decisive.

If it had been canceled we would have had a hard time funding operations until the end of the year“, including 20,000 euros for food, and 20,000 for initiatives planned for Christmas, says David Lebugle.

To finance all this, the Secours Populaire hopes to raise 100,000 euros, a sum far from the 170,000 euros collected last year.

A clearance sale almost like the others

On the Zenith stalls: books, toys and other accessories which are distributed in green bins. Visitors must walk in a specific direction, while wearing the mask and respecting the safety distances. Two things that have become commonplace in recent months.

Among these visitors, Marine, a student is hunting for the rare pearl. “Here we are, I found it“. She holds Vol de Nuit, a book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry published in 1931 and adds the work to a stack of eight books that she keeps under her arm. It is true that it is much cheaper than usual“, she says, with prices starting from 1 euro.

But she, like one of her friends, says she came to help Secours Populaire. “If I can help those who are less fortunate, I do, especially with this crisis which may last for a long time.
