A Saguenay company collaborates for a new high-performance and reusable mask

A mask that is even more efficient and reusable than the famous type of N-95 mask could soon see the light of day thanks, among other things, to a Saguenay company.

“With the N-95, it is often difficult to breathe. We have therefore created a filter that allows better breathing and better protection: it provides 99% protection, ”explained Sefar BDH CEO Yves Tremblay.

“Plus we can even wash it. You just have to put it in the dishwasher, so it’s very ecological, ”he said.

This company specializes in the manufacture of tailor-made textile products for the mining sector. She is the one who designed the mask filter.

“We challenged them to help us with the design,” explained Emmanuel Bergeron, director of regional economic development at Rio Tinto.

Sefar answered Rio Tinto’s call. “We are really happy,” said Yves Tremblay, all smiles.

“It’s really exciting because there isn’t a reusable mask like this made here yet,” Bergeron said.

If it is marketed, the new mask will be adapted to each face through an application. “People will just have to scan their face via the app and after an analysis will tell the user the ideal mask for him, the right fit and therefore it ensures a certain comfort,” said the specialist in oral surgery and maxillofacial, René Caissie.

Several Quebec companies are collaborating on the project. The mask is not yet on sale, but it is already in demand.

“We already have the United States and Europe approaching us to have our masks,” said Dr. René Caissie.

“We are really looking forward to it,” added Emmanuel Bergeron. It is gratifying. It’s innovative and we believe it will be greatly appreciated. ”

The project is already very advanced. All that’s left is Health Canada’s analysis and approval. The designers say they are ready to produce quickly and in large quantities.
