A quieter Sunday day at the Coast, according to the attendance barometer

Following the incidents that occurred on Saturday in Blankenberge and Knokke, the municipal authorities carried out checks at the entrance to several municipalities.

LSunday was quieter on the Coast than Saturday, according to the attendance barometer established by the West Flanders Westtoer tourist office. For example, in Blankenberge, where day tourists were turned away, the code dark green (“calm”) or light green (“comfortable”) was displayed. This attendance barometer is established in partnership with the telephone operator Proximus on the basis of its mobile data. The objective is to direct tourists to the various seaside resorts.

Following the incidents that occurred on Saturday in Blankenberge and Knokke, the municipal authorities carried out checks at the entrance of several municipalities: Knokke-Heist, Blankenberge, Le Coq and Bredene. Attendance there was no surprise felt. In Knokke-Heist some areas turned orange around midday (“very busy”). There were also a lot of people at Le Coq at the start of the afternoon, just before the burgomaster denied entry from 2 p.m. A similar ban was in effect all day in Blankenberge. The code there therefore remained green.

Most of the other seaside resorts have received a code yellow, such as Middelkerke, Nieuport and Wenduine. Code Orange was only activated for a short time in Ostend. Day tourists will be allowed again tomorrow / Monday, except in Knokke-Heist.
