Last days, authorities from the Córdoba Bar Association, courtroom directors and, according to the institution, “some colleagues” gathered in a party room in the northern part of the city to celebrate Lawyer’s Day.
Shortly after, in the face of criticism from many lawyers and the silence of the school, the administrator of an important group of the social network Facebook (director of the Consumer Law Chamber), who attended the event, tried, in my opinion, an unfortunate defense of that one, with explanations between comical, ironic, arrogant and wrong.
Not satisfied with this, hours later he eliminated from the group several colleagues who criticized both his opinion and the school.
In this regard, allow me to say the following: I think it is good and even necessary for the school to organize a formal lunch with its members, directors and room directors to commemorate Lawyer’s Day. It is a quasi-obligatory act for our institution to recognize the work of its members.
However, I disagree with the forms. The statement came late. It was published after the event and it was not serious.
I understand that the invitation to managers and directors was fine, but “some colleagues” were added without further clarification. Why “some colleagues”? Who were they? What was taken into account when inviting them? How many were they? Who chose them? How much did the card cost? Did the school pay for it?
“Some colleagues”: two words with the stamp of the elitist and unscrupulous essence of those who today lead the Córdoba Bar Association, a leadership that clearly does not embrace the union defense of its members in the same way and that has low empathy with them .
In any case, the lunch should have been held only with the members of the entity, the room directors and the authorities, who -in turn- should have explained (and regretted) that for reasons of public and notorious knowledge it could not be organized an event with all the tuition attorneys.
Finally, I think that out of respect, decorum and, especially, in view of the current health situation, photos could have been avoided with many people without masks, together and smiling jokingly.
As simple as that.
As a collegiate lawyer, I feel disappointed by the current leadership, which not only squanders the opportunities to do things well, but also chooses to do them worse.
I sincerely hope that in the next elections people committed to respect for the institution, with collegial solidarity and a correct notion of what is the defense of the interests of the group they represent will be elected. Otherwise, soccerically speaking, we will continue playing at the bottom of the table. I am convinced that we have human and academic material to fight for the championship; We just have to choose the right players, to put together the great team that we all deserve.
