1. Leave everything in its place
In most cases, during a renovation, the water and electricity supplies are already present. If you want to change the location of the appliances, you should not only hire a kitchen installer, but also a plumber, an electrician, a tiler, and so on. 2. Change the cabinet doors
The cabinet design, and therefore the layout of your cabinets, may seem like a detail, but it makes the difference between a kitchen and the kitchen of your dreams. The layout is also often difficult to adjust after installation. What you can change more easily are the cabinet doors or the worktop. Cabinet space is integrated into the furniture and the four sides are visible. You have to cover all of these, while only a front can be seen with the other furniture.

4. Go for large storage spaces
It is better to choose large storage spaces than several small ones. Smaller cabinets offer different storage options, but you can also divide larger cabinets with dividers. That is a lot cheaper and that way you make the most of the space.

Be careful with expensive accessories: everything that ‘slides’, for example, is expensive, such as drawers, shutters and sliding doors. One of the highlights is the corner cabinet with hinged shelves, even though a quarter of the space is lost with it. It’s better to just put a shelf in the corner and keep kitchen utensils that you only use once or twice a year.

5. Weigh and weigh
Putting together an affordable, tailor-made kitchen ultimately comes down to finding the right balance. Do you absolutely want to stand behind the pots on a kitchen island or are you completely in love with that marble worktop, then you may have to save on the finish of the cabinet fronts or on the appliances you want to place.
