A new image for five public spaces in Gijón | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

The month of September will be the beginning of the transformation of five public spaces in Gijón with damaged walls or elements. The idea of ​​the City Council is to intervene in these places of art form, either with urban art or plastic; works that will be commissioned by various local and Asturian artists.

The municipal objective is give a new air that makes the city a more charming and friendly place According to the director of the Municipal Foundation for Culture, Education and Popular University, Miguel Barrero, it is important to support these forms of artistic expression “because culture can contribute to making cities more friendly and welcoming to citizens, to feel embraced by these works “.

At the moment the project, which will begin in mid-September, will be carried out in five public spaces with the intention of extend the list in the following three years, until 2023.

There are four walls and an electrical transformer: the wall at Punta de Lequerica, the one at Naval Gijón, the one at the Ceares football field, the wall that follows Talasoponiente and the electrical transformer at the Guia roundabout. These five elements will be followed on the calendar by the electrical transformer on Paseo de Begoña and a mural on Rio Eo Street, in addition to the latter with a participatory plan that will include residents.

Regarding the artists, Barrero highlights the participation of both urban artists like plastic artists among which names such as Helena Toraño, Ramón Isidoro or Alicia Varela stand out.
