A new explosion rocked Istanbul on Tuesday evening in the central Fatih district, where flames engulfed several cars, Haberturk said. The cause of the explosion remains unclear.

“In the Fatih district of Istanbul, flames that spread from a car that started burning for an unknown reason spread to parked cars. During the fire, reflected in the recordings of cell phone cameras, the noises of explosions,” reports the TV channel.

According to the Yeni Akit newspaper, the fire was caused by not one but several explosions. The flames started in the car and then spread to other cars. Seven cars were badly damaged and the explosions caused panic among the population.

Fire crews rushed to the scene and put out the fire, and the police launched an investigation into the incident.

Last week, an explosion erupted on Istiklal pedestrian street in central Istanbul, killing six people and injuring 81. Ahlam Albashir, a suspect in the attack, was arrested and admitted to having links to the PKK. According to the interior ministry, the order for the attack came from the Syrian border town of Kobani.

Searches were also carried out at 21 addresses and the security forces arrested a total of 50 people.
