Astronomers explain that so far none of the Apollo S-IVb that hit the Moon have left a double crater. While this is theoretically possible, it was considered too unlikely. Mark Robinson, principal investigator on the LRO Camera team, theorized that the double mark must have arisen from a heavy object hitting each end, and that rockets usually have all of their weight concentrated at the end of the engine.
