A mother in telework dismissed because her children were making too much noise

XALIMANEWS- In the United States, a mother in teleworking was dismissed from her position of account manager in finance because her children were too noisy during meetings.

Due to the containment measures linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, Dris Wallace, who lives in San Diego (California), had to juggle for almost three months between his professional obligations and the care of his two children, Dani and Dylan , aged 3 years and 1 year respectively.

“The first few weeks were very stressful, with many calls, emails and impossible expectations. The pressure from my boss created a lot of stress. My children kept interrupting me, my baby demanded that I breastfeed him all the time. Each time they had to wait until I finished my tasks for me to take care of them, “said Dris Wallace on Scary Mommy and on his Instagram account.

While her boss, aware of her situation, continues to impose a steady pace on her, the young woman tries somehow to organize herself. She arranges to receive calls from customers during her children’s nap and buys them all kinds of supplies (pencils, coloring…) to keep them occupied.

“FIND A WAY TO MAKE THEM MUTE”

However, his employer was absolutely not understanding and pointed out to him several times that “it is unprofessional to hear (his) children” during meetings by videoconference. “Find a way to silence them,” he says. She then asks him to postpone certain telephone meetings so that she can more easily ensure them calmly, but he ignores her request.

“He continued to schedule calls over my lunch break when my two children were hungry and therefore impatient,” she says. Dris Wallace therefore had to take it over until May, before having to face a new derogatory call from his leader.

“You cannot be professional with clients with children or background noise. No other account manager on your team has these difficulties. Your role is to be there for the client. You have to make sure you fix the problem, ”he demands. Exhausted, she decides to talk about her situation and ask for help from human resources, who offer her a telephone meeting in early June.

SHE INTENDS TO TAKE THE CASE TO JUSTICE

“I thought they had found a solution,” she says. Instead I was told out of the blue that I was clearly not happy with the situation and that the best thing to do was to continue on my side “, even as the management was committed not to lay off any employee during the pandemic, and to make “to arrange with the schedules of the parents in telework”.

But she does not intend to stop there. The young woman has hired a lawyer and intends to bring the case to justice, in order to beat her “for all mothers who have had to endure this”.
