The alleged murderer was arrested in the center of Nancy on Friday afternoon. After his police custody, he was charged with murder and placed in pre-trial detention, said the prosecutor, François Pérain.
“Convicted 37 times since 1997, including seven times for assault with a weapon and three times for narcotic drugs,” the man admitted to having killed the victim during a transaction involving drugs, said Mr. Pérain.
“There was an altercation and he bayoneted, which was given to him by his father and which he then threw,” he added.
The two men had met in a medical office and had agreed to exchange drugs.
The victim, aged 37, had been discovered lying on the public highway by a woman who was returning home, near the Meurthe canal, Monday around 7:00 p.m.
According to the medical examiner, “the man died as a result of a brutal blow to the carotid artery, fractures were caused by the force of the blow,” said the prosecutor.
He was “known to have used narcotics” and was found in possession of a “precision balance”, a tool used for the drug trade, he said.
Shortly after the incident, a man who could correspond to the description given by a witness was arrested, along with a woman who accompanied him. The couple was exonerated.
The investigation is being carried out by the Nancy regional judicial police service.
