Through a phone call, the scammers get in touch with elderly people, warning of a false arrest of a relative who is supposedly detained at the police station. They pretend to be policemen or lawyers to then ask for a large amount of money so that the relative is released and they even make a transport available to them to do the business.
The example would be that of a 94-year-old victim. An alleged lawyer has called her to tell her that her son was arrested for a serious crime and that he would only be released if he paid 4,000 euros and some jewelry. The victim prepares the money and jewelry, and the scammer stops by her house to take everything.

The recommendations of the Mossos d’Esquadra:
- If you receive a call from a stranger, do not provide any personal information about your family or absent relatives.
- If you receive a call from a person who asks you for money to help a relative, do not pay and try to speak with that relative.
- If you suspect or confirm that it is a scam, call 112 or go to the police station to report it.
