A hydroalcoholic gel declared ineffective by the repression of fraud

The Directorate-General for Competition, Consumption and Law Enforcement Fraud (DGCCRF) recalled hydroalcoholic gels on Monday. These are 30, 60 and 100 milliliter bottles of the Symex brand marked “Hand Sanitizer”, report our colleagues from

According to the DGCCRF, these vials are being recalled because they have “insufficient ethanol content to provide true antiviral and antibacterial action”. It is therefore strongly recommended to “no longer use it and return it to the place of purchase”. These products are still on sale on some websites, so consumers should remain vigilant during this time of year.epidemic.

27% ethanol instead of the 60% recommended

The alert was given by the group France Televisions, which had purchased hydroalcoholic gels of this brand in number for its 10,000 employees. Of
unions had warned management that their effectiveness may not be optimal because these products have already been singled out by a municipality in the Var.

After sending samples to the laboratory, the verdict fell: Symex hydroalcoholic gels contained only 27% ethanol instead of the 60% recommended by the National Security Agency of drug to combat the spread of
coronavirus. The pharmacist who sold these products to France Télévisions also said he was the victim of a scam. The media group plans to file a complaint.
