A Greek, suspected of killing a man by car in Bulgaria, then came to Romania

A Greek businessman was detained on Tuesday evening by the Romanian authorities, suspected of fleeing after causing a fatal accident on the roads in Bulgaria.

He then tried to repair his car with us.

The man is now in the Central Detention Center of the Capital Police.

The Greek citizen is accused of fatally injuring a motorcyclist on a road in Bulgaria and abandoning him there.

The accident took place on July 30, and the victim’s relatives were the ones who alerted the Bulgarian police after the man did not arrive home. The motorcyclist was found four days later, on the side of a road.

During this time, the Greek driver crossed the border into Romania, where he has been living for some time. With the car damaged, the man looked for a solution to get rid of the traces of the accident. He went to a car service in Ilfov County.

Anne-Marie Ciolcă, the spokesperson of IPJ Ilfov: “A man allegedly tried to persuade the service staff to repair his car without presenting a repair permit.”

Because the tracks on the car showed that the driver was involved in a possible road accident, the mechanics alerted the police. Ilfov agents took him to hearings and opened a criminal case against him for the lack of documents necessary for the repair. In search of the event in which he could have been involved, the police found a match in Bulgaria.

Anne-Marie Ciolcă, the spokesperson of IPJ Ilfov: “My colleagues established that the vehicle was involved in a car accident that resulted in the death of a person in Bulgaria.”

On behalf of the Greek driver, the Bulgarians had already issued a European arrest warrant for culpable homicide. After several hours of interrogations, the suspect was taken to the Central Detention Center of the Capital Police and detained. A court is to decide to send him to the neighboring country.
