A giant fight breaks out in Marchienne-au-Pont: around fifty people involved, three injured, including a police officer

Charleroi police have confirmed that a fight between two clans of the Roma community took place in the evening of Tuesday on the road from Mons to Marchienne-au-Pont (Charleroi).

Four people were deprived of their liberty following the clash. A Covid-19 patrol from the local Charleroi police observed Tuesday evening, around 9:00 p.m., a violent fight on the road from Mons to Marchienne-au-Pont (Charleroi). Several teams from the surrounding police zones were called to the scene. Two clans belonging to the Roma community clashed. “Fifty people are involved in the fight,” said the Charleroi police area.

According to the first elements gathered on the spot, a family dispute is at the origin of the confrontation. Three people, including a police officer, were injured and taken care of by the emergency services. Four people were deprived of their liberty. “One of them is the subject of a judicial arrest for having carried an ax.”

An investigation was opened to determine the precise circumstances of the confrontation. The road was closed to traffic following the events.
