The holidays turned into a tragedy for a family staying in Vias in the Hérault. A four-year-old child drowned in the swimming pool of the campsite “Le petit mousse”. The child had arrived a few days ago with his mother.
When the pool closed on Monday evening, the mother realized that her child had gone back into the water. The lifeguard saw the child in the water and immediately dived to take the little boy out, according to our colleagues from Midi-Free.
The child, who spent about two minutes underwater, was in cardio-respiratory arrest. The firefighters and the Smur quickly intervened and decided to helicopter the child to the Lapeyronnie hospital in Montpellier. The child died on the night of Monday to Tuesday.
“It’s a drama. The life of this tourist family was turned upside down in two short minutes, explains to Midi-Free the mayor of Vias Jordan Dartier. Humanly, the situation was very difficult to manage. It is a real tragedy for us ”.
The Pézenas gendarmerie company is in charge of the investigation.
154 emergency visits for drowning in Occitania
This summer, hospital and clinic emergencies in Occitania recorded 154 admissions between June 1 and August 18, according to data from Public health France.
