Myanmar seal reaped criticism from the international community after doing dead execusion against four detainees, including a prominent pro-democracy activist and former member of parliament from the party Aung San Suu Kyi. However, Myanmar’s junta called the four inmates “deserving of many death sentences”.
“If we compare their sentences with other death penalty cases, they have committed crimes for which they should have been sentenced to death many times,” a military junta spokesman said. MyanmarZaw Min Tun at a regular press conference, as reported by the news agency AFPTuesday (26/7/2022).
Dead execusion announced on Monday (25/7) has sparked widespread criticism. The execution was the first application of the death penalty in Myanmar in the last few decades. The executions sparked calls for the international community to take tougher action against Mr board myanmar already isolated.

Zaw Min Tun said the death sentence was handed down by the court after the defendants were “given the right to defend themselves in accordance with court procedures.”
“They have harmed many innocent people. There are many great losses that cannot be replaced,” he added.
He said the detainees, who included former lawmakers from the ousted leader’s party, Aung San Suu Kyihas been allowed to meet family members via video conferencing.
Phyo Zeya Thaw, a former lawmaker from Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) was sentenced to death in January for offenses under anti-terrorism laws.
Democracy activist Kyaw Min Yu – better known as “Jimmy” – received the same sentence from a military tribunal.
