A first smartphone with a front camera placed under the screen will be released in China

On September 1, 2020, the Chinese manufacturer ZTE will present the very first series smartphone with a front camera placed under the screen, thus becoming the first true model of its kind without an edge.

In 2019, the first models of smartphones appeared with a photo sensor hidden under the screen on the front, in the form, then, of concepts. If, at the time, Oppo and Xiaomi appeared as precursors in the matter, that’s good ZTE which is about to launch the first production model of this type.

A real technological feat

Placing the camera directly under the screen obviously saves space and eliminates the notch, whatever its shape, which is usually assigned to them. Since then, the screen can in theory occupy the entire surface (front) of the terminal.

The challenge is to ultimately produce photos as successful as before despite the presence of the screen between the sensor and the subject to be photographed. ZTE would also have opted for a 32 megapixel sensor.

As a reminder, in the past, the fingerprint sensor was the first to disappear from the surface of the smartphone to end up under the screen, a technique now perfectly mastered by manufacturers.

The ZTE Axon 20 will initially be reserved for the Chinese market.
