a first leak reveals the size of the battery

Samsung won’t unveil the Galaxy S21 + (or Galaxy S30 +) for several months. Despite everything, a leak has already lifted the veil on the size of the large-format smartphone’s battery. Unsurprisingly, the South Korean manufacturer is betting on a battery slightly larger than that of the Galaxy S20 + launched in early 2020.

This August 20, 2020, a report from our Dutch colleagues from GalaxyClub reveals the size of Galaxy S21 + battery. The media claims to have obtained information about an accumulator with a serial number corresponding to Samsung’s habits: EB-BG996ABY. The battery belongs to a smartphone with the following code name: SM-G996. For the record, it is not uncommon for GalaxyClub to reveal the size of the batteries of certain smartphones months before release.

A 4800 mAh battery for the Galaxy S21 + (S30 +)

According to the report, the S21 + will be powered by a battery with a capacity nominal from 4660 mAh. Under these conditions, GalaxyClub relies on a typical effective capacity of 4800 mAh. To compare, the Galaxy S20 +, its predecessor, is powered by a 4,500 mAh battery.

As we told you in our test of the S20 +, this battery offers an autonomy of around the day (depending on your phone settings, including the 120 Hz screen). With 300 mAh more, the S21 + could do better. Obviously, everything depends on the energy consumption of the screen and other components, and software optimization.

If the S21 + has a 4800 mAh battery, we can expect the standard version of the S21 to be powered by a 4300 mAh or 4500 mAh accumulator, against the 4000 mAh for the Galaxy S20. For the Galaxy S21 Ultra, GalaxyClub expects to find a battery of 5,300mAh or more, compared to 5,000mAh for le Galaxy S20 Ultra, his predecessor.

For the time being, these are still only speculations. Samsung is expected to present the Galaxy S21 duringa conference scheduled for around February 2021. We tell you more as soon as possible about the brand’s future flagships. While waiting for more information, feel free to give your opinion in the comments below.
