A drama about strength and love at the National Theater – “Parts of a Woman” / Article

The Hungarian playwright Kata Weber’s work “Parts of a Woman” was commissioned by Warsaw’s “Teatr Rozmaitošci” or “Theater of Diversity” four years ago. The author’s personal story about the injury caused to a woman by the loss of a child is also immortalized in a Canadian-American co-production of the same name. To direct this work at the National Theater, directors Inārs Sluckas were motivated by the vision of the woman’s world depicted in the play, as well as the desire to talk about a topic that has been little discussed in Latvian society so far.

“I have never encountered material that speaks so openly and directly, not in the past, but it has happened here, now and on the ground. And we are confronted with this situation,” says director Ināra Slucka. “This show is life-affirming. And it was very important to me.”

The show is divided into two contrasting parts of different shapes. In the first – the expectation, birth and loss of a child is depicted as a laconic reading of a text accompanied by music by composer Edgar Macken, while in the second part the events in a woman’s life after a tragic event follow.

The spectator of the show Armands Kalniņš says after the show: “I think it is necessary to talk about it, if only because such events in human life leave indelible impressions. It is really impossible to recover from it. The first scene, this reading would get even more “The music made a strong impression and intensified.”

The reaction of the family and society, which is often alienated from a woman’s inner experiences, ironically highlights current developments in today’s society. Actresses Laura Siliņa, Esmeralda Ermale and Sanita Paula play women from the same family in the production.

Ermale reveals: “This topic seems to me to be very, if not inspiring, but very important. things to learn throughout your life. “

Actress Laura Siliņa, on the other hand, emphasizes: “No matter how gloomy and heavy it may seem at first, we are trying very hard to look for the light in it and to look for why we continue and why we have stayed. that there is no answer. “

No matter how tragic the original message may be, the overall mood of the production raises reflections on how a tragic situation can lead to the family’s ability to come together and, according to the author of the play, leads to love and mercy.
