A connected Rubik’s Cube promises remote competitions

In its connected version, the cube is slightly heavier. An aspect that must be taken into account in competitions.

Almost 50 years after its creation, the Rubik’s Cube is still very popular today. Numerous speed competitions are regularly organized around the world. Unfortunately, the latter are among the many victims of the health crisis caused by the coronavirus. To remedy the problem, a new version of the puzzle game popularized by Ernö Rubik has emerged.

This version aims to be connected and allows fans of the most famous cube to continue their competitions, but from a distance. The “Rubik’s Connected” can in fact connect to a mobile application which allows the cube’s resolution to be monitored in real time, in this way “speed cubers” can participate in virtual competitions from their home.

If the primary objective is to allow players to compete in games of speed despite the coronavirus pandemic, this new version will allow more followers who would not be moved for a real competition to join the championships. online. Rubik’s Connected will therefore be able to reach a new audience and perhaps that will one day give rise to some sort of e-sport competition.

The “speed cubers” will also have to train again since the new connected cube is heavier than the original. They will have to take this element into account in their solution of the puzzle in record time.

For the moment, we do not yet know the selling price of the Rubik’s Cube 2.0, but it will be available in pre-order from August 18th.
