– A class completely out of its own world – VG

Viktor Hovland (24) took his third victory of the year after a terrific final round in the Hero World Challenge.

In the tournament hosted by Tiger Woods and with a number of the world’s biggest stars present, it was Viktor Hovland who ravaged the Bahamas on Sunday night.

Despite a somewhat messy finish, Hovland won one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler. Thus, he has now won the last two tournaments he has played this year.

– It’s very cool (to win two in a row). At least when you take a short break, it’s good to take a vacation at that end. That’s quite clear. There is a lot of golf next year, and a lot of cool tournaments. I try not to stress too much, but just continue with what I do. Hopefully I will win more tournaments next year, says Hovland to VG at a press conference after the victory.

Now the Norwegian will return to Oklahoma for a few days, before he goes home on Christmas vacation to Norway.

THE MANAGER AND THE WINNER: Tiger Woods and Viktor Hovland after the tournament.

The victory will send Hovland up from ninth to seventh place in the world rankings.

– It has gone fast. I have felt that I am capable of climbing upwards, but there is one thing to do and at least winning twice in a row now is quite special. At least in a week where I have felt that my game has not been great. It’s just been “steady”. It has been a cool journey so far, says Hovland at the press conference.

Tiger Woods himself was present in the Bahamas and handed out the trophy to Hovland.

– Congratulations to Viktor Hovland with a big victory, he writes on Twitter.

The Norwegian was in a split third place before the last round, and halfway through the round he had played his way up to a split lead.

The good game continued on the last nine holes, where he decided the tournament with an eagle-eagle birdie on holes 14-16.

With that, he gained a lead of three strokes before the last two holes. Thus, he also tolerated a bogey on both holes 17 and 18, and won by one stroke ahead of Scottie Scheffler.

– He shows a class completely out of his own world, says Eurosport commentator Henrik Bjørnstad.

CHEERS: Viktor Hovland cheers with caddy Shay Knight after securing the victory.

Hovland went the final round six strokes under par, and finished a total of 18 strokes under par.

The Hero World Challenge is listed in the calendar of the PGA Tour, but is not counted in the statistics as a victory on the PGA Tour. Points are also not awarded in the FedEx Cup, but the tournament gives points in the world rankings.

Hovland will receive 1 million US dollars for the victory, corresponding to 9.18 million Norwegian kroner.

Only 20 players took part in the tournament, but in return some of the world’s biggest stars had taken the trip to the Bahamas. 14 of the players who are in the top 20 in the world rankings participated and besides Henrik Stenson, who won the tournament in 2019, all the players are in the top 50 in the world.

Before the final round, it seemed that Collin Morikawa had full control of the victory. The world champion was five strokes ahead of the nearest competitor and six strokes ahead of Hovland. With a victory, Morikawa would for the first time in his career go up to first place in the world rankings, but Morikawa went four strokes over par in Sunday’s round and finished four strokes behind Hovland.

Hovland has three wins on the PGA Tour earlier in his career.

PS! The tournament was broadcast on GolfTV, Discovery + and Eurosport Norway.
