Alabama, Michigan, Georgia and Cincinnati announced playoffs

The participants in the playoffs for the current college football season have been determined. Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, and Cincinnati were selected as participants by the committee.

Alabama was placed in first position of the playoffs, Michigan followed in second, Georgia in third and Cincinnati in number four. In the two semifinals, Alabama and Cincinnati as well as Michigan and Georgia meet. The respective winners will contest the final on January 10th in Indianapolis.

There were no really big surprises when it came to the cast of the playoffs. Alabama climbed from third to first place after beating Georgia on Saturday, and the Bulldogs fell back from the top spot. Michigan and Cincinnati held their positions.

In the SEC Championship Game, Alabama had clearly beaten the previously undefeated Bulldogs with 41:24 and thus pushed past Georgia. Michigan won the Big Ten Championship Game against Iowa easily with 42: 3, Cincinnati won the AAC Championship Game against Houston with 35:20.

With the Bearcats, a team from the so-called Group of 5 – in a sense the second guard of the college conferences – makes it into the playoffs. Cincinnati had won all 13 games that season. In the semifinals against Alabama, the school is still a clear outsider.

Fifth and sixth in the final ranking went to Notre Dame and Ohio State. The Fighting Irish and the Buckeyes narrowly miss the playoffs.
