a CHU offers 100 euros to volunteers to undergo an MRI

Being paid and contributing to medical research: this is what the Rangueil University Hospital in the south of Toulouse offers. According to La Dépêche, the hospital center has launched a study on motor recovery after a stroke.

For the purposes of its study, the CHU is looking for a healthy comparison control group in order to compare with people who have already had a stroke. These men and women must be between the ages of 45 and 77, never have had a stroke, and have no neurological history. For their participation, the volunteers will receive 100 euros. For almost two hours, they will have to undergo a medical examination and medical imaging (MRI). The goal is to improve the care of stroke patients. This study is in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm).

First cause of disability in adults

In France, according to Inserm, a person suffers from a stroke every four minutes. Stroke is a sudden cessation of blood supply to one or more parts of the brain, which can lead to irreversible sequelae (40% of cases). “Cerebral infarction” is the leading cause of disability acquired in adulthood. Stroke can manifest itself in several ways: loss of motor skills, language impairment, loss of sight etc. It corresponds to the leading cause of death in women and the second in men. Research is therefore essential to try to better understand it.
