A chef who also impressed Pohlreich. He closed the restaurant and died

The very sad news hit the entire Czech gastronomic world, and it was doubly so. It’s unbelievable, but only a few days after the famous restaurant Hodonín Westy, which once amazed even Zdeněk Pohlreich, announced the closure of its businesses, even sadder news arrives. Its owner and head chef in one person, Ludwig Westtermair, is dead.

Industry leader

Westy restaurant announced the end a few weeks ago, with the original plan to finish another October and then at least take a break. The owners left the future open, but gave a clear transition to their view of the current situation, which they felt was difficult to sustain.

But in the end, the Westy restaurant will never reopen again. Its chef and owner is gone, as his wife Jana reported on social networks. “He loved his profession and has always and unreservedly given everything he could, including his heart, for 46 years. In the rare moments of calm, when I asked him what he would do if he could start over, he would always tell me with a smile that he would choose the same thing again,She wrote on Facebook, adding that her heart could no longer bear the events of recent years. At the same time, Ludwig himself was looking forward to the rest period, which he planned to actively spend with his wife.

He cooked for celebrities

Ludwig Westtermair was originally Austrian, but he connected a significant part of his career with the Czech Republic, where he built a renowned company. At one time, chef Zdeněk Pohlreich also visited him as part of the Yes, Chief program. However, unlike most other restaurants, he had nothing to fault. In Ludwig he immediately recognized his equal.

The famous names for which Westtermair cooked also prove that it was a real culinary extraclass. Among them we find other legends in their fields, such as Niki Lauda, Hugh Grant or Arnold Schwarzenegger.
