German police in Berlin have detained a 41-year-old man suspected of cannibalism.
The man is detained after finding human bones in a park in a suburb of Berlin.
The Berlin prosecutor’s office said on Friday it was investigating sexually motivated murder and cannibalism.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the disappearance of a 44-year-old man in Berlin in September.
Police did not reveal the suspect’s name, but the Bild newspaper reports that the detainee is a high school math and chemistry teacher.
Bones were found in a park in the Pankov district of Berlin on November 8 by people walking there. A forensic examination concluded that they belonged to the man who disappeared in September.
Experts also concluded that the bones, which had no flesh, and other evidence suggest that the missing man was a victim of a cannibal, Bild reported.
The victim and the suspect have communicated in an internet chat, where they have arranged a meeting, reports “Bild”.
