LoT Hostels, the new digital tool for pilgrims – The GO!

Castilla y León collaborates with the new digital tool ‘Albergues LoT’. The pilgrims will be able, through it, know the free places in the hostels on the Camino de Santiago.

Pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago will have a new digital tool that will allow them know in real time the available beds in the towns of the French Way. ‘Albergues LoT’ It is an initiative promoted by the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago that will be launched on September 10. Castile and Leon It has collaborated, together with the governments of Navarra, Aragon, La Rioja and Galicia, to implement this new functionality throughout the Jacobean route.

The general director of Tourism of the Junta de Castilla y León, María Estrella Torrecilla, has informed that they will be installed 22 devices in the provinces of Burgos, Palencia and León. In addition, he highlighted the good coordination between the communities and described the project as “very ambitious.”

A total of 70 hostels they will have this tool in their initial starting network. The information on the availability of places will be free, open and free for all those who want it. The pilgrims will be able to consult the free beds of the shelters at the enabled web address, the AMCS application (APP Camino) and on any page that requests it. The hostels will update the available places after the pilgrims’ check-in. Thus, they can decide whether to spend the night in one location or continue to the next.

New ways of doing the Camino de Santiago

Covid-19 has caused the project, which was intended to start in 2021, the Jacobean Holy Year, to be brought forward a few months. The health crisis has caused the way in which the pilgrimage is carried out has changed. The reduction of capacity and the maintenance of safety distances have created new protocols to attend to pilgrims, in which the Association of Municipalities of the Camino de Santiago has worked in depth in recent months.

The tool ‘Albergues LoT’ will help maintain these new measures and it will be of great use to the walker. Knowing in this way the degree of occupation of the accommodation where to spend the night, the pilgrim will be able to carry out his route with more security and less uncertainty.
