In the dispute over the overturned death sentence against the assassin from the Boston marathon, the prosecutor’s office takes a case before the US Supreme Court. This is to ensure that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s sentence is upheld, said prosecutor Andrew Lelling on Thursday evening (local time). The sentence against the 27-year-old should not be renegotiated.
Tsarnaev is an “ideologically motivated mass murderer” who deserves the death penalty, Lelling said. A federal appeals court in Boston overturned Tsarnaev’s 2015 death sentence in late July. The court ordered a new trial of the sentence, so it was not a question of guilt per se.
