Take-Two: Price Rise for PS5 and Xbox Series X Games “Reflects Quality of Experience” – News

Last month, Take-Two Interactive announced that NBA 2K21 will be priced at € 69.99 / $ 59.99 on current consoles, compared to € 74.99 / $ 69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X. the American firm, Strauss Zelnick, returned to this price increase on the occasion of the publication of the latest financial results.

Strauss Zelnick shared his perspective on this thorny subject in the columns of GamesIndustry. According to him, the gaming experience that will be offered on PS5 and Xbox Series X will justify a higher price than usual:

There hasn’t been a price increase for major games for a very long time, despite the fact that they cost a lot more to design. And we believe the price is justified by the value we provide to consumers and the kind of experience you can only really have on these next-gen consoles.

The CEO, however, indicated that the price of Take-Two’s next-gen games will be decided on a case-by-case basis, suggesting that not all of them will cost € 74.99 as NBA 2K21. “NBA 2K21 is a monumental leap forward for the franchise. We built the game from the ground up to fully utilize the power and technology of next-gen consoles.”, explained Greg Thomas, president of the Visual Concepts studio, when announcing the game.

On the side of other publishers, we already know that Ubisoft games (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Watch Dogs Legion) scheduled for the end of 2020 will be sold at the usual price. GamesIndustry asked Strauss Zelnick if he believes the major publishers need to agree for players to agree to a price hike:

Obviously, we are not speaking on behalf of the industry, which naturally does not coordinate on these issues. The price should reflect the quality of the experience, and we strive to provide the best experiences. And from our point of view, that’s an extremely modest price change considering that the prices haven’t moved for a very long time.

In addition to NBA 2K21, Take-Two has a confirmed reminder that GTA V will arrive on PS5 and Xbox Series X in the second half of 2021, in a version offering technical and visual improvements.
