The outcome was not in doubt. Jürgen Klopp was voted Coach of the Year on Monday by the English League Coaching Association, after allowing Liverpool, after 30 years of waiting, to become English football champion again. This distinction from the German was heralded by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who gave the trophy his name.
Arrived in Liverpool in 2015, the former technician from Mainz won this trophy for the first time in his career. Since the start of his tenure with the Reds, he has won a Champions League (2019, plus a final lost in 2018), a European Super Cup, a Club World Cup and therefore the long awaited Premier League. Under his orders, the club also played a Europa League final (2016), a League Cup and a Community Shield.
Chris Wilder, winner of this trophy last year, takes second place behind club. After bringing Sheffield United up to the Premier League last season, he easily kept his side in the top flight with a ninth place finish.
Bielsa also awarded
Argentinian Marcelo Bielsa, who brought Leeds back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence at the top level, was voted best manager in the Championship. The Whites will return to the elite after 16 years of absence. The former technician of OM, great architect of this success, will soon meet his leaders to extend his contract.
