The Community ceases Elsa Martín as Commissioner of Animal Welfare

Madrid, Jan 28 (EFE) .- The Governing Council of the Community of Madrid approved on Tuesday the cessation “at the request of Elsa Martín Olsen as commissioner of Animal Welfare of the Community of Madrid.

It will be replaced in the post by Pablo Altozano, a pharmacist, who was Deputy Minister of Environment, Local Administration and Land Management in the previous legislature.

In the press conference after the meeting of the Governing Council, the regional vice president, Ignacio Aguado, explained that this has been “a strictly personal decision” by Elsa Martín Olsen, who has wished luck in his personal and professional challenges.





The Commissioner of Animal Welfare is a dependent position of the Ministry of Environment, Land Management and Sustainability, with a salary of 75,084 euros per year.

Its main task is to fight against animal abuse and exploitation, as well as the abandonment of companion animals.

It will also promote awareness and awareness campaigns to encourage the adoption of animals and will be a new channel of communication with the protective entities that guarantees the participatory approach of regional policies, according to sources from the Ministry of Environment.

Among the measures included in the Government agreement reached between the PP and Citizens, is the development of a Strategy against Maltreatment and Abandonment of Pets, as well as the deployment of all measures of the Animal Protection and Welfare Law from the Community of Madrid.

Elsa Martín, a television presenter who participated in the survival contest “The jungle of celebrities”, has been linked to the animal world since childhood.

He is a technical assistant and veterinary assistant by the Higher Institute of Studies (ISED) and has a natural dressage course by the Madrid Institute for Rural, Agrarian and Food Research and Development (IMIDRA) of the Community of Madrid.

He founded in 2014 the “Campus Perruno” project, a center for canine and equestrian development and rehabilitation, located in Brunete, which was born with the aim of achieving animal welfare.

It is an estate of 30,000 square meters, energy self-sufficient and 100 percent sustainable where animals can enjoy nature freely.





The initiative has revitalized this Madrid municipality and has made it a reference in animal protection.

Martín Olsen was the presenter of ‘Impact TV’ (Antena 3) and became famous for participating in the year 2004 in the survival contest ‘The island of celebrities’ in Antena 3. EFE
