Jakarta to Host Two International Badminton Tournaments in 2023: Indonesia International Challenge and BNI Indonesia Masters

Jakarta

Indonesia again trusted to host two international badminton tournaments. The event will be held in Medan from 29 August to 10 September 2023.

The two badminton tournaments in question are Indonesia International Challenge 2023 and BNI Indonesia Masters I 2023 level 100. The two championships will take place at the Fishing Sports Hall, Medan, North Sumatra, from 29 August to 3 September and 5 to 10 September.

Chair of the Organizing Committee Armand Darmadji said that this was the first time for Medan to host an international badminton tournament since 27 years ago or during the 1996 Indonesia Open.

This cannot be separated from the aggressiveness of the North Sumatra Province Pengprov who are carrying out repairs, so that the Fishing Sport Center is said to be worthy of holding this international event.

“We chose the terrain because of the readiness of the North Sumatra Provincial Government itself, with the GOR being seen internationally, that this Fishing Sport Center has followed international standards and is worthy of holding an international event in the city of Medan,” said Armand in his press conference via Zoom on Tuesday (15/8/2023) .

The two events were attended by hundreds of players from various countries. Indonesia International Challenge 2023 was attended by 308 players from 19 countries, namely Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, America United States, and Indonesia as the host.

Meanwhile for BNI Indonesia Masters there was an addition of 128 players from a total of 308 people in the first event, to 436 players from 22 countries. The additional countries are Brunei, Taiwan and Türkiye.

Indonesia itself for these two events fielded its best athletes including women’s singles Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Ester Nurumi Dwi Wardoyo, Mutiara Ayu, men’s doubles Muh. Boys Erwiansyah/Patra Harapan Rindorindo, women’s doubles Ribka Sugiarto/Lanny Tria Mayasari, and mixed doubles Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata.

The badminton players will fight apart from seeking the title as well as fighting for a total prize of US$15 thousand and 4,000 points for the Indonesia International Challenge event and US$100 thousand for the BNI Indonesia Masters.

Komang, who will appear in the two events, admits that he has made preparations according to the program given by the trainers recently. Including evaluating the previous tournaments.

“The target is definitely to be on the podium and become champions. But I don’t want to burden myself, so just go with it,” said Komang.

Something similar was expressed Rebekah Sugiarto. Champion International Challenge 2022 in Bahrain also said that they had made various preparations to appear at the event.

“My focus and Lanny’s are to become champions but again we don’t want to burden ourselves. You have to keep your mind on, and don’t come to practice empty, then don’t let your condition drop,” said Rebekah.
