The defendant refused to testify before the Berlin district court in the lawsuit against politicians and authorities across the country. The 32-year-old’s defenders said on the second day of the trial on Thursday that her client would remain silent. However, the two lawyers announced a defense lawyer for one of the next trial days. As a first witness, a police officer testified that the defendant was silent about the allegations when he was arrested in April 2019.

As of December 2018, the alleged right-wing extremist is said to have sent e-mails to members of the Bundestag as well as police stations, courts, media and shopping centers under the sender “National Socialist Offensive” and threatened explosives and other homicides. The man is charged with 107 acts.

The charges include disturbing public peace by threatening crime. Also attempted robbery and are accused of threatening the man. According to the court, the trial will also deal with the culpability of the convicted 32-year-old. He was arrested in Schleswig-Holstein in early April 2019 and later transferred to a prison in Berlin.

The man is said to have cooperated with unknown accomplices

The indictment says the alleged perpetrator wanted to live out his hatred of people and the capitalist system. The man wanted to unsettle the population and at the same time want to get public attention. The German also wanted to give the impression that a network was behind him. He is said to have cooperated with a previously unknown accomplice.

Mails in which explosive devices were announced went to courts in Berlin, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Bremen, Potsdam, Wiesbaden, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Saarbrücken, Magdeburg, Erfurt, Hanover, Munich, Nuremberg, Dresden, Cologne and Kiel, according to the indictment. Some buildings were evacuated or sniffer dogs were used. After a bomb threat by e-mail, the station in Lübeck was temporarily blocked in January 2019, and train services stopped. No explosive devices were found in any case.

On the first day of the trial two weeks ago, the trial had to be interrupted shortly after the start because of a bomb threat against the district court. The threatening fax ending with “Heil Hitler” had a direct connection to the trial, a court spokeswoman said at the time. After an inspection, the all-clear was given, but the charges could only be read more than one hour late. In another fax received by a suspected right-wing extremist the night before, an acquittal had been requested for the accused, according to the judiciary.

The process is scheduled to continue on May 12th.
