Unfinished with COVID-19, the North Korean population is now being attacked by a new outbreak that threatens the lives of its residents.
Reuters reported North Korea had sent a medical crew and epidemiological investigators to a province battling an intestinal disease outbreak. At least 800 families suffer from an “acute enteric epidemic” in South Hwanghae Province.
Enteric refers to the digestive tract and South Korean officials say it may be cholera or typhoid.
The new outbreak, which was first reported on Thursday, is further weighing on the isolated nation as it battles chronic food shortages and a wave of COVID-19 infections.
On Sunday the state news agency KCNA detailed preventive measures, including quarantine, intensive screening for all residents, and special treatment and monitoring of vulnerable people such as children and the elderly.
Meanwhile KCNA reported that Kim Jong Un had sent medical aid which made his people weep.
“Residents in Haeju City chanted ‘Long live Comrade Kim Jong-un!’, crying out of gratitude,” KCNA said in a statement.
“They warmly cherish the good image of Kim Jong-un, who devoted himself to the people with his noble idea that no emergency is more serious than the suffering of the people and no revolutionary work is more important than alleviating the misery of the people,” he added.
